NATURAL HISTORY THROUGH ART IN THE 21st CENTURY
Rafael McKenzie Soares
About the Artist
Brazilian born and living in the United States since 1989, Rafael
McKenzie Soares has been painting since the age of fifteen. He began
taking lessons with Petrus, a professional Dutch artist, who introduced
Soares to the academic drawing techniques of the old masters creating
for Soares a solid artistic foundation.
As a naturalist artist, Soares investigates the endless possibilities
within the world of fauna and flora. This subject matter offers
not only faithful scientific documentation, but also an artistic
reflection of the natural world with its interconnected pattern
and esthetics.
Soares is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists,
and an award winning artist, capturing best in show at the 5th Annual
Juried International Botanical Art Exhibition at The Horticultural
Society of New York. Soares has represented his work nationally
and internationally in such shows as the prestigious 10th International
Exhibition of Botanical Art and Illustration at The Hunt Institute
for Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh.
The preservation of the natural world and true craftsmanship in
art reinforce Soares' commitment and determination to his art. Soares'
work is represented in many private collections, and every year
his audience expands.
